Holiday Island Collab with Dodson’s Bar & Commons
Dodson’s Bar & Commons, a new bar in Waldo, makes some fantastic cocktails, and we recently brainstormed with them on a holiday collaboration. Together, we decided the collaboration would be a special edition of BKS Vacation Island series, which infuses tiki drinks concepts into a session sour ale. The collab was originally based on a classic tiki cocktail, the Jungle Bird, then it transformed into something all its own, which we named “Holiday Island”.
We have a few different events planned around the Holiday Island release.
Join us tonight, Thursday (12/20), at Dodson’s for a ‘Holiday Island’ beer and cocktail event. The cocktail is tiki style made with coconut rum, Campari, black strap rum, lime and pineapple. The beer is a sour ale w/ orange, lime, cherry, pineapple, coconut & maple. Dodson’s will be serving both the beer and the cocktail for this special event. Holiday and/or island attire is highly encouraged!
Then, come by BKS on Friday (12/21) when we open at 4pm to pick-up 22oz bottles of Holiday Island to share with friends and family during all of your Holiday festivities. It will also make a great stocking stuffer!
BKS Merchandise and Gift Cards
If you are last minute shopper, like most of us, stop by the tasting room this weekend (Friday 4 to 8pm, Sat 12 to 7pm or Sun 1 to 5pm) for multiple gift options. We have zip-up hoodies, t-shirts, hats, glasses, dog treats and plastic gift cards. You can also purchase e-gift cards online.
Drink Fresh Beer
As we’ve started to sell more canned and bottled beer, we get a lot of questions from customers about how long our beers willstay “good”. Here are a few suggestions on storage of our packaged beers.
- Keep it cold! Warm temperatures are the enemy of fresh beer. Elevated temperatures will start the process of degrading the precious aromas and flavors of the beer. Keep it cold!
- Drink your beer fresh! We recommend drinking our beer within 30 days of the purchase date. While it will not “expire” after 30 days, the flavors from hops, coffee, fruit, etc. will slowly begin to diminish as the beer sits. Our beers are at their best within the first 30 days after purchase.
Speaking of Fresh Beer… we are excited to be bringing some new and updated beers to you in 2019
We are always intrigued by new malts and the use of a single hop, so we are switching our Antithesis to be a beer that features different malts and different hops. We will always let you know on the label which malts and hops are showcased.
As we finished our latest collaboration with our friend Aaron Justus from Ballast Point, Denim Vest, we started talking about our first collab, Juice’s Counterculture. We hope everyone loved it as much as we did, as this will be a beer we will brew regularly in 2019. Juice’s Counterculture will feature a similar malt build to Counterculture but with a few additional specialty malts, along with two of our favorite hops and orange zest.
Also, our base Counterculture will also be back in early 2019! More beer announcements coming soon.
Tasting Room Hours
Our tasting room hours will remain the same over the holidays. We are open Friday 4 to 8pm, Saturday 12 to 7pm and Sunday 1 to 5pm.
Happy Holidays!
